Jul 22, 2020

One of my best buddies and amazing photographer Robbie Jeffers was interview a couple weeks back by Ilford Photo. Ilford in my opinion produces the best film chemistry and paper, and my receipts would show that! At the end of Robbie's interview he nominated me to be interviewed by Ilford. Here's the interview.

Volume 9

May 18, 2020

As the team was planning the 9th Issue of Bluedoor Magazine we thought it would be good to showcase people in their workplace during challenging season. The Photo Essay was 19 environmental portraits of vital workers. Each portrait was shot on black and white. Only 2 cameras were used for the project. The Hasselblad X Pan (a 35mm panoramic). The other camera was the Mamiya 7 II a beautiful 6x7 medium format. I chose black and white film for two reasons, for one black and ...

Kevo

Nov 28, 2019

It's no mistake this post comes on Thanksgiving...I'm so thankful to have had Kevin as my best friend! Friend is not the right word... Kevo was my Brother and as he would say we were the A team, I was in his inner circle. He cracked me up when he would say that stuff. Kevo and I spoke every morning, followed by quick calls and check-ups throughout the day. I'd try and get over to see Kevo once a week sometimes it was less sometimes it was more frequent. Since Kev broke his neck our ...

35mm and medium format film are a very familiar format for me, as I know the limitations and what to expect. Recently I took a trip up the California Coast tried my hand with a Graflex 4x5. I expected the camera to function similar to what I have already been shooting. Cameras are simple tools, with only 3 functions to juggle. ISO, shutter speed, and the f-stop. The Graflex lacks a light meter so you need to meter with a light meter. The Graflex back I have holds 12 - 4x5 frames. Its ...

Long story short my parents were at the bar in Nick's Laguna Beach, where they got talking to an English Gentleman named Justin Williams. He was talking about launching a new Lifestyle / Real Estate Magazine in Orange County. My biggest fan in the world "My Mom" said you need to talk to Brett for photography. Justin Williams called me soon after the Nick's introduction and we got straight to work. I helped Justin fill the dummy issue with photography. Backing the project and ...

Sunshine

Shooting pics of kids can be tough...I don't like my picture taken either so I can't blame them for hating a portrait session. Photographs that I'm drawn to have a common tread of being candid moments that deliver an emotional response. As a photographer trying to predict or sometimes even orchestratating these moments can be tricky depending on the subject. I like to put people in places where they can get lost in the moment...these moments are what make the photographs special ...
